The Philadelphia Phillies and NY Mets are both struggling to stay in the thick of the NL East race. Last night, the Mets struggled more as closer Edwin Diaz blew eight solid innings from Jacob deGrom and opened the floodgates to a five-run ninth inning in a 7-2 Phils’ victory. The win was only the ninth for Philadelphia (46-42) in the last 24 games, but five of those have come at the expense of New York (39-49). The Phillies will try to continue that dominance tonight at Citi Field with Jake Arrieta (8-6, 4.43) taking the mound against the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard (5-4, 4.56).
