Last night’s contest between the Red Sox and Indians epitomized the recent track record of both clubs. Boston clawed its way back to a 5-5 tie in the ninth inning only to watch Carlos Santana win it for Cleveland with a walk-off HR in the bottom of the ninth. For the Red Sox, it was their 12th loss in the last 15 games and dropped them back to 8 1/2 games out in the AL wild-card standings. For the Indians, it was their 22nd win in 29 games since the All-Star break and put the Tribe a half-game up on Minnesota in the AL Central standings. The two clubs will continue the series tonight at Progressive Field with Boston sending Chris Sale (6-11, 4.41) to the mound against Cleveland’s Mike Clevinger (7-2, 3.02).
