The Thursday night NFL matchup between Tampa Bay (0-1) and Carolina (0-1) features two former Heisman Trophy winners who are trying to regain their form as the Bucs’ Jameis Winston squares off against the Panthers’ Cam Newton. Newton battled shoulder issues last year and was hopeful that off-season surgery would correct the problem. But Week 1’s performance in a 30-27 loss to the Rams shows he still has a ways to go. Winston’s troubles don’t appear to be physical, just a lack of confidence that new head coach Bruce Arians was brought in to correct. But 3 INTs in a 31-17 loss to San Francisco also indicates the turnaround is going to take some time. To get Dunkel’s pick for this game and the full NFL schedule for Week 2, click HERE.
No team has contributed more to the MLB home run explosion than the Baltimore Orioles, who have given up a single-season record 280 dingers thus far. So perhaps it was appropriate that the Orioles have a hand in setting the MLB mark for homers in a season when the O’s Jonathan Villar connected for the 6,106th round-tripper last night. It was also part of a rare Orioles win as the Birds knocked off the Dodgers, 7-3. Those two teams will wrap up their interleague series tonight at Camden Yards with Rich Hill (4-1, 2.55) taking the hill for LA against Baltimore’s Dylan Bundy (6-13, 5.06). Week 3 of the college football schedule kicks off on Friday with a battle of the Cougars as Mike Leach’s Air Raid attack at Washington State (2-0) hits the road to face Houston (1-1) and its new head coach, Dana Holgorsen.
