USC Dominates Sooners In Orange Bowl

What was supposed to be a battle between two undefeated teams turned into a rout as USC scored 38 points in the last 20 minutes of the second half to smash Oklahoma (55-19) in the most-lopsided BCS championship to date.  The Trojans were not the only undefeated team, however, as Auburn held off Virginia Tech (16-13) in the Sugar Bowl to go 13-0 and Utah also finished with a perfect record (12-0) after being the first non-BCS school to be invited to a BCS postseason game.  The Utes dominated Pittsburgh (35-7) in the Fiesta Bowl.  But it was USC behind Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart and do-everything back Reggie Bush that claimed the top spot in the final Dunkel ratings.  Here are the final rankings for the 2004 college football season.

JMU Runs To First Division I-AA Title

Once again James Madison did it on the ground as the Dukes rolled up 314 yards rushing en route to a 31-21 win over Montana in the Division I-AA championship.  Maurice Fenner led the way with 164 rushing yards while QB Justin Rascati added 57 yards and two TDs.  The Dukes were the first team in history to reach the title game after winning three straight playoff games on the road.  The Grizzlies, who were playing in their fifth title game in 10 years, took a 21-17 lead in the third quarter but could not hold on.  Here are the final Division I-AA rankings for 2004.
