Patriots Win Second Super Bowl In Three Years
The New England Patriots completed their improbable run with a 32-29 win over Carolina in Super Bowl XXXVIII and locked up the top spot in the Dunkel Index for the second time in three years. The Patriots bounced back from a disappointing 2002 and a sluggish 2-2 start to 2003 by winning its last 15 games. No team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins had done that. And perhaps befitting the '72 Dolphins, these Patriots were made up mostly of no-name players. Their final rating of 136.5 was not high by historical standards (for example, the Bucs finished at 141.3 the year before). But the Patriots did just enough to win, whether it be a 17-14 defensive struggle over Tennessee in the playoffs or a 32-29 shootout over Carolina in the Super Bowl. Here's the final ratings for the 2003 season.
